Short bio: 154 words

Mary Jo (MJ) Wiseman, CMP, spent 24 years as a corporate meeting and event coordinator where she managed the full spectrum of the event planning process, across all levels of management with an emphasis on high profile, executive-level groups including senior management, Board of Directors and key customers. The author’s systematic approach to project management helped her to get and stay focused on the task at hand while handling multiple details, projects and deadlines throughout her career.

After leaving the corporate world she stayed current in the industry trip directing and volunteering. She volunteered for five years assisting WomenVenture, a nonprofit organization that provides micro-financing for women starting or expanding a business with their prospect research efforts, something that brought her full circle to a similar prospect research position she had at Metropolitan State University prior to starting on her meeting planning career.  She transitioned her research talent again into her meeting planner role with the site, search and selection element of the planning process as she sought out the best fit between her client's needs and the venues under consideration.

The Book

The Meeting Planning Process:  A Guide to Planning Successful Meetings by Certified Meeting Professional, Mary Jo (MJ) Wiseman, offers a commonsense approach to managing the full spectrum of the meeting planning process based on the knowledge and experience she garnered over her 24- year career as a corporate meeting and event coordinator.  The author’s systematic approach to project management helped her to get and stay focused on the task at hand while handling multiple details, projects and deadlines throughout her career.  Now she is sharing her knowledge with others through her writing, coaching and consulting.

The author firmly believes it is NOT just one person who makes a meeting or event happen, but rather a well-led TEAM of dedicated, enthusiastic, talented individuals who come together to do what they do best to help organizations EXCEED PROGRAM OBJECTIVES and make them SHINE.  It is the PROCESS or the system one uses to get started that can either keep you on track or send you off the rails.

MJs Guide offers a practical overview of the entire planning process for novice to seasoned planners, to executive or administrative professionals who are called upon occasionally to plan meetings outside of their day-to-day responsibilities.  It offers keen insights and valuable tips to help CREATE the perfect EXPERIENCE for their audiences by staying true to the basic elements of the planning process.   It is intended to lead people through the proper steps and the sequence of tasks involved in planning a meeting such as: Establishing a Design/Planning Team; Developing an Overall (Meeting Action) Plan; Budgeting; Site Selection; Communications; Audio-Visual/Speaker Support; Food and Beverage; Contract Review and more.

The Guide also includes handy templates developed by the author -- a Meeting Timeline; Overall (Meeting Action) Plan; and Request for Proposal (RFP) as well as descriptions and diagrams of possible room set-ups.
